Designing Your RBT Study Schedule

Passing the RBT exam requires consistent effort and a structured study plan. We recommend dedicated preparation over a 2 to 4-week period, depending on your familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) concepts.

Recommended 4-Week Study Schedule

  • Week 1: Foundations & Measurement (Task List A & B): Study measurement procedures, continuous and discontinuous measurement, and graph data. Focus on preference assessments and assisting with functional assessment procedures.
  • Week 2: Skill Acquisition (Task List C): Review reinforcement schedules, discrete trial training (DTT), naturalistic teaching, task analyses, stimulus control transfer, and generalization. This is the largest section of the exam.
  • Week 3: Behavior Reduction (Task List D): Learn differential reinforcement (DRA, DRI, DRO), extinction, crisis procedures, and antecedent interventions.
  • Week 4: Documentation, Conduct & Final Practice (Task List E & F): Focus on session notes, client dignity, professional boundaries, and take full-length mock exams.

Study Tips for Success

Consistency is key. Study in focused blocks of 45-60 minutes daily. Always review incorrect answers on mock exams to identify your weak conceptual areas.
